Las Ramblas revived Barcelona

Who has visited Barcelona and has not walked along the most famous and bohemian pedestrian street in town? Any time during the day or night several thousands tourists will be meandering along the Rambla soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the activities of this mythical venue. But maybe the original spirit of this street has disappeared in the last few years. That is why the ‘Rambleros, rebels with a cause’ project has been started, in an attempt to see the Rambla turn into the dynamic cultural centre it used to be from the end of the 1960s through the mid 1980s. The “Rambleros” want to restore the essence of this avenue by reasserting the freedoms, social changes and revolutions typical of that era.

From March 1st until March 28th, visitor can enjoy exhibitions, shows, round tables, music and literary activities.

A big marquee with no end of shows
A big marquee, with room for 400 people, will be installed on the Rambla de Santa Mònica, close to the ‘Drassanes’ Metro, and will be packed with activities, shows, discussions and exhibitions on the Barcelona avenue’s recent history.

Music, magic, dance, clown and puppet shows will all be performed in the marquee, which will include artists who made history with young, up-and-coming stars. The marquee will also be holding exhibitions on ‘Posters and banners’, diaries and magazines from the period and the Rambla’s legendary venues, like the Cúpula, Venus and Barcelona de Noche. There will also be a night dedicated to Gato Pérez, a fundamental figure in Catalan rumba.

Two important exhibitions will take place in the Rambleros Project: one is from the artist Manel Barceló who will be recreating activities from that period; the other one will be the tribute to one of the most reactionary and transgressor characters: the painter Ocaña, an icon for homosexuals and transsexuals, who fought for their rights.

If you want to know the Ramblas and live their real spirit, forget the tourist paellas and any kind of lure that doesn’t have to do with the true nature of this venue. Become a real Ramblero and book Apartments in Barcelona, the ideal and cheapest option to stay in the beautiful city.
